Description:

All media used in tissue culture have a basis of a synthetic mixture of inorganic salts known as a physiological or balanced salt solution (BSS). Hank's Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) 1X with Phenol Red, Magnesium, and Sodium Bicarbonate (without Calcium) is a specialized cell culture formulation designed to support mammalian cell maintenance while enabling magnesium-dependent processes and pH monitoring. This calcium-free solution prevents interference with enzymatic reactions like trypsinization, making it ideal for protocols requiring controlled ionic conditions. Magnesium supports enzymatic cofactor functions and structural roles, critical for processes like ATPase activity.

Applications:

  • Cell Washing/Resuspension: Preferred for calcium-sensitive protocols, such as enzymatic dissociation where calcium inhibits trypsin activity.
  • Magnesium-Dependent Studies: Facilitates processes requiring Mg²?, including enzymatic reactions and ion channel research.
  • pH Monitoring: Phenol red enables real-time visual assessment of medium pH during experiments.
  • Short-Term Cell Transport: Maintains viability in ambient CO₂ environments due to bicarbonate buffering.

Advantages:

  • Prevents cell adhesion/aggregation: The absence of calcium minimizes cell attachment risks, critical during enzymatic dissociation processes like trypsinization, where calcium inhibits trypsin activity
  • Supports enzymatic and structural functions: Magnesium is retained as a cofactor for ATPase activity and other magnesium-dependent cellular processes, balancing the need for ionic support while excluding calcium

All DiagnoCine Precision Sterile buffers are filtered-sterilized with a 0.1-micron filtration two times and 0.04-micron filtration one time. Thus, mycoplasma contamination is prevented.  The smallest size mycoplasma type can be about 0.2 microns.

* This product is manufactured under ISO 13485-certified and CE-approved facilities (Suppliers of DiagnoCine Precision). All final packaging, quality assurance, and testing are done at the DiagnoCine R&D and Quality Testing Center.  All specific customization requests and assembly were accomplished at DiagnoCine Precision in Totowa, New Jersey, USA.
