Amphotericin B (40 µg/mL) Nutrient Agar Plates are designed for the cultivation and isolation of non-fastidious bacteria from a variety of clinical, food, and environmental samples, while effectively suppressing the growth of fungi and yeasts. The inclusion of Amphotericin B, a polyene antifungal agent, makes these plates particularly valuable when working with specimens that may be contaminated with fungal organisms.
Nutrient Agar is a fundamental culture medium. Its balanced formulation supports a wide range of microorganisms and is widely used for routine cultivation, teaching, and demonstration purposes, as it resists overgrowth that can occur in richer media.
Amphotericin B acts by binding to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, forming pores that cause the leakage of intracellular ions and ultimately cell death. This selective antifungal action ensures that bacterial colonies can be isolated and studied without interference from fungal contaminants.
The medium can be further enriched with biological fluids such as horse or sheep blood to support the growth of fastidious organisms.
