Description:
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) is an acidic, high dextrose peptone-based medium, used primarily for the isolation, cultivation and maintenance of yeasts and mold. The low pH and elevated glucose content favors fungal growth, while inhibiting bacteria in clinical, cosmetic, environmental and food samples. when broad-spectrum antibiotics are added, they contribute an additional layer of selectivivty by inhibiting gram-positive and gram-negatvie bacterial growth without causing significant harm to fungi. Please note that Penicillin and Streptomycin combinations with SDA can inhibit certain pathogenic fungi such as Actinomyces bovis and nocardia asteroids.
