Description:
Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA) plates with Penicillin G are selective fungal culture media in which standard SDA is supplemented with penicillin to suppress bacterial contaminants while supporting the growth of yeasts and molds. Dextrose is a high-level carbon and energy source for fungi. Peptone provides nitrogen, amino acids, vitamins and growth factors. The inherently low pH and high dextrose favor fungal growth and inhinit many bacteria from clinical, food, and environmental samples.
Penicillin G inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, targeting primarily gram-positive organisms and some gram-negative bacteria, reducing bacterial overgrowth on the plate.
