Description:
Malt Extract Agar (MEA) is an acidic nutrient rich culture medium formulated for isolation, cultivation and enumeration of yeasts and molds from clinical and non-clinical samples, environmental and industrial samples, food products, and beverages.
How it Works:
MEA is built around malt extract as the main nutrient base, providing carbohydrates, vitamins and growth factors that support fungal metabolism. Mycological peptones provide amino acids and nitrogenous compounds that promote luxuriant fungal growth with characteristic colony morphology and pigmentation. The mildily acidic pH favors fungal growth over bacterial growth which becomes restricted or inhibited.
