Description:
Luria Bertani agar is a nutritionall y rich, non-selective solid medium used primarily in the cultivation, maintenance and plating of Escherichia coli and other non-fastidious bacteria, including recombinant strains used in cloning and protein expression. It supports robust growth, high cell density, and is commonly used for plasmid propagation and routine cloning work
How It Works:
Tryptone is a source of peptide and amino acids for nitrogen and carbon. The yeast extract provides B-vitamins, nucleotides, and growth factors. These different compositions make LB agar a rich general-purpose medium suitable for non-selective growth of E. coli K12 derived recombinants strains and related enterics and it becomes selective when antibiotics or other supplemenets are added.
