Krebs-Ringer Bicarbonate Buffer is a high-quality salt solution with various laboratory uses, including tissue cell culture, washing, preparation of primary adipocytes and lipolysis assays, pre-perifusion for islet viability and functionality studies, and pituitary bioassays.
This buffer's salt content provides the cells with water and inorganic ions, in turn maintaining the osmotic balance and ideal pH in the medium. All media used in tissue culture have a basis of a synthetic mixture of inorganic salts known as a physiological or balanced salt solution (BSS). All the physiological salt solutions have been derived from the salt solution originally described by Sydney Ringer (1885). The first balanced salt solution to be developed specifically for supporting the metabolism of mammalian cells was Tyrode's solution. Since then, many modifications have been made to obtain better buffering salt solutions and to prevent calcium precipitation.
The function of a salt solution is:
To maintain the medium within the physiological pH range.
To maintain intracellular and extracellular osmotic balance.
Modified with a carbohydrate, such as glucose, is an energy source for cell metabolism.
This product is 1X Krebs-Ringer Bicarbonate Buffer with calcium chloride, HEPES buffer, 0.2% bovine serum albumin. It does not contain glucose nor sodium bicarbonate. HEPES, a zwitterionic buffer having a pKa of 7.3 at 37°C, prevents the initial rise in PH that tends to occur at the initiation of a culture and increases the buffering capacity of the medium. This buffer does not contain Glucose. Users should review the literature for recommendations regarding medium supplementation and physiological growth requirements for different cell lines and conditions.

Quality Control:
Appearance: Clear, colorless solution
pH (at 1X concentration): 7.4
Sterility: Filtered 0.1 micron Twice in a sterile environment. No bacterial or fungal growth is observed after 14 days of incubation, as per USP specification.
Cultural Response: The growth promotion capacity of the medium is assessed qualitatively by analyzing the cells for morphology and quantitatively by estimating the cell counts and comparing it with a control medium.
Storage and Shelf Life:
Store at 4 °C and away from bright light.
Shelf life is 24 months.
Use before the expiry date given on the product label.
* All DiagnoCine Precision Sterile media are filtered-sterilized with a 0.1-micron filtration two times and 0.04 micron once. Thus, mycoplasma contamination is prevented. The smallest size mycoplasma type can be about 0.2 microns.
* This product is manufactured under ISO 13485-certified and CE-approved facilities (Suppliers of DiagnoCine Precision). All final packaging, quality assurance, and testing are done at the DiagnoCine R&D and Quality Testing Center.
